Claraty with her violin

8+ yrs

teaching total beginners

Your teacher

Hi, I'll be your teacher, Claraty

The daughter of two classical musicians from Palo Alto, California, Clara studied classical violin and piano from the age of 5. In 2012, she received a double BA in Film and Digital Media and Psychology from UC Santa Cruz. She then proceeded to attend Indigital School of Recording Arts to develop mastery in Ableton Live as a sound designer. She has been teaching total beginners to know how to master their own production in Ableton Live for over 8 years, and has now made the course material accessible to anyone, anywhere, all the time.

Claraty tours the world offering her gifts as a multi-instrumentalist, composer, electronic music producer, DJ, sound engineer, experimental mixed media artist and conscious event producer. She is brilliant at integrating a range of genres, instruments, artistic specialties, and out-of-the-box ideas to create one-of-a-kind sonic experiences and immersive performances.

She spent over 10 years studying holistic health, practicing bodywork and participating in Peruvian, Mexican and Brazilian shamanic ceremonial practices, learning reverence for sound as a powerful transmission of the sacred. She sources her inspiration from a feeling of protectorship of the forests, the waters, the animals and the indigenous caretakers of the earth.

Cool, let's get started

Beginners who finished their music

"Claraty's production course took me from almost no experience in Ableton to producing a full song in just three months. Her patience, expertise, and step by step guidance made the entire process feel clear and achievable. My very first track turned out amazing and I'm excited to be releasing it on Spotify this month! I'm so grateful for Claraty, she made something I thought was going to be way more challenging actually very attainable. I'm addicted!"
CCasey
"Claraty is amazing, endlessly patient, wicked talented. I highly recommend anyone interested in learning beginner Ableton to work with Clara."
JJade
"It's almost like... how can you even phrase the journey you've been on because of how many layers you touch. If I could do it all over again 100% and I would invest even more time and energy"

Ableton course FAQ

Nope! Art of Sound is designed for both total beginners and those who've dabbled but want to deepen. You'll be guided step-by-step, with both technical tutorials and creative rituals that meet you where you are.

You'll need Ableton Live (any version will work, but Suite or Standard is recommended for the full experience). A free trial is available on their website, and I'll guide you through getting set up.

You don't "need" anything more than your laptop with Ableton downloaded and a pair of closed-ear headphones. Some other gear will make this course a lot of fun (such as an external hard drive, a MIDI keyboard of your choice, an audio interface and recording microphone). You'll receive a full list as well as suggestions for purchasing.

Yes. So long as you move through all the modules and participate fully, you'll walk away with a complete track from start to finish, and a repeatable process for creating more.

Any kind. The tools you'll learn are genre-fluid. Whether you're making bass music, folk-electronic fusions, ambient meditations, or weird experimental jams, it's all welcome.
